Jabsco 17372-1000 Stainless Steel Wearplate
The Jabsco 17372-1000 is a genuine replacement stainless steel wearplate for the Jabsco 17360-1001 and 17970-0100 marine diesel engine cooling pumps. The wearplate sits behind the impeller and takes the rubbing wear of the impeller vanes so the pump body itself is protected. Its flat face is one wall of the pumping chamber, so it has to stay smooth for the vanes to seal as they sweep past.
When the wearplate is grooved or scored, liquid slips back past the vanes on every revolution, output falls and the pump is slow to prime even with a new impeller. Check the wearplate every time the impeller is changed. Replace it once a step or groove can be felt with a fingernail, and fit it the same way round as the original.

Q: Will a new impeller fix low output on its own?
Not if the wearplate or end cover is grooved. Liquid slips through the groove whatever the condition of the impeller.
Q: Does the wearplate have a correct orientation?
Yes. Fit it the same way round as the one removed so any locating features line up with the body.
Q: Should I replace the impeller at the same time?
Usually. A worn wearplate often comes with a worn impeller, and fitting both restores full output.
Q: How do I know the wearplate is worn?
Run a fingernail across the face where the vanes run. If it catches on a step or groove, the plate should be replaced.
