Jabsco 14281-0001B Neoprene Impeller, 12 Blade
The Jabsco 14281-0001B is a genuine Jabsco flexible impeller in neoprene. It has 12 blades, a 2-1/4 in diameter and a 1-1/4 in width, with a 5/8 in double flat shaft, epoxy plastic hub. As it turns inside the offset pump body, the blades bend and straighten, drawing liquid in and pushing it out, which is what makes a flexible impeller pump self-priming. It is listed for Jabsco 30510 series and 28230 series 316 stainless steel pumps.
Neoprene is the general purpose compound for water, raw water cooling and mildly abrasive liquids. Impellers are wear parts. Replace one when blades are cracked, torn or have taken a permanent set in the curved position, when the pump is slow to prime, or after it has run dry even briefly. Lubricate the new impeller with a little water pump grease before fitting it, and fit a new end cover gasket or O-ring at the same time.

Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Should I grease the new impeller?
Yes, a light coat of water pump grease on the blades and hub helps it survive the first dry seconds before liquid arrives.
Q: Can I change impeller compound?
Yes, where the same impeller is offered in another compound for your pump. Choose the compound for the liquid being pumped.
Q: Why is my new impeller hard to fit?
The blades need to fold the right way. A little grease on the blades and turning the shaft in the running direction as you push helps.
Q: Which way should the blades bend?
They bend back against the direction of rotation as the impeller is pushed into the body. Turning the shaft in the running direction while pushing makes this easy.
