Jabsco 12460-0011 12V Self-Priming Utility Pump, Neoprene Impeller
The Jabsco 12460-0011 is a 12 volt self-priming flexible impeller pump with a phenolic-type plastic pump end, a neoprene impeller and a lip type shaft seal. The motor is a reversible permanent magnet, fully enclosed 12 VDC motor drawing about 4 amps, with a stainless steel shaft, and it is built to meet USCG electrical standards for marine use. Ports take a 3/4 in garden hose on the outside with a 3/8 in pipe thread inside.
This pump is rated for intermittent duty, which suits bilge pump out, washdown, livewell and small transfer jobs on a boat with no shore power. If it sits idle for long periods the impeller can stick to the body and stall the motor, so remove, clean and lubricate the impeller with water or a little grease before returning it to service. The replacement pump head is Jabsco 12377-0001 and the impeller is 14750-0001.

Q: Why will it not self-prime?
Almost always an air leak on the suction side. Every suction connection must be airtight for the pump to pull a vacuum.
Q: What is the main service part?
The impeller. Keep a spare with the matching compound, plus an end cover gasket.
Q: How long can it run dry?
Only seconds. The flexible impeller depends on the liquid for lubrication, and dry running damages it quickly.
Q: Which port is the inlet?
Motor rotation decides it. Check the arrow or the pump instructions, and plumb the suction line to the inlet port.
