Jabsco 11860-0005 Electro-Magnetic Clutch Pump, 12V
The Jabsco 11860-0005 is a bronze electro-magnetic clutch pump with a 12 VDC clutch and a 2-A pulley with two A-section belt grooves. The pump is driven by a belt from the engine, and the clutch lets it be switched on and off remotely from the helm or a control panel, so the pump only turns when water is needed. The pump end is bronze with a nitrile flexible impeller and a carbon/ceramic mechanical shaft seal, with 1 in NPT ports.
Clutch pumps are the standard choice for engine driven washdown, fire, bilge and bait well service on work boats and sportfishing boats, because they deliver high flow without a large electric motor and without running the pump all the time. The service kit for the pump end is Jabsco 90118-0003, with nitrile impeller, seal and gasket, and the end cover is 11831-0000. An optional vacuum switch can be added to protect the impeller from running dry.

Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Why a clutch rather than an electric pump?
The engine supplies the power, so the pump can move a lot of water without a large electric motor, and the clutch stops it when it is not needed.
Q: How do I protect it from running dry?
Keep the intake clear, avoid engaging it with the seacock closed, and consider the optional vacuum switch.
Q: What wears first?
The impeller, followed by the shaft seal. Keep the 90118-0003 service kit aboard.
Q: Can the clutch be run off a different voltage?
No. The clutch coil is wound for 12 VDC. Match the pump to the vessel electrical system.
