Jabsco 10182-0000 Cam
The Jabsco 10182-0000 is a genuine replacement cam for Jabsco flexible impeller pumps. The cam is the fixed, crescent shaped insert held inside the pump body by a cam screw. As the impeller turns, the cam squeezes the vanes on the discharge side of the body, which pushes liquid out of the outlet, and as the vanes straighten again past the cam they create the suction that makes the pump self-priming. It is listed for Jabsco 18930 and 18940 series bronze engine cooling pumps.
Cams wear and corrode where the vanes ride over them, and a cam screw that has worked loose lets the cam shift and lets air in through the screw hole. The result is lower output, slow priming and faster impeller wear. Replace the cam when its face is grooved, pitted or eaten away, and seal the top of the cam and the cam screw threads with a non-hardening sealant on assembly so the pump cannot draw air past the screw.

Q: Should I replace the impeller at the same time?
Yes. A worn cam and a worn impeller wear each other, and fitting a new impeller against an old grooved cam shortens its life.
Q: How do I know the cam is worn?
Look for a step or groove where the vane tips ride, pitting from corrosion, or a cam that moves when the screw is snug. Any of these costs flow.
Q: Does the cam need to be removed to change the impeller?
No. The impeller comes out through the front once the end cover is off. The cam only comes out when it is being replaced.
Q: Can a cam be reused after the screw hole is stripped?
No. If the thread in the body or the cam is damaged the cam cannot be held tight, and the pump will lose prime and wear quickly.
