Finish Thompson SP10P SP10 SP10 Self Priming Magnetic Drive Pump End
This is the Finish Thompson SP10 self priming sealless magnetic drive pump end, constructed in polypropylene. It is supplied as the pump end, ready to mount on a motor of the matching frame. The SP casing doubles as a fluid reservoir with a molded gooseneck suction passage, so the pump primes itself without a foot valve and lifts from a tank or sump set below it.
Specified correctly it is a long lived pump, and most of what shortens its life comes down to how it is run rather than how it is built. Keep solids out of the suction and avoid running against a closed discharge, since a decoupled magnet set builds heat quickly and can lose strength permanently. Keep the casing reservoir charged so the pump has fluid to prime from at every start.
Key Features
- Self priming design that lifts up to 25 feet
- Primes 18 feet in about 90 seconds
- Sealless magnetic drive with no shaft seal to leak
- Polypropylene wetted construction
- Molded gooseneck suction passage that removes the need for a check valve
Applications
- Drawing chemicals up out of sumps, pits and below grade tanks
- Tank emptying where the pump must sit above the fluid
- Plating and metal finishing lines with underfloor tanks
- Waste and recovery duties with intermittent supply
- Replacing a pump that loses prime between runs

Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Does the pump need a suction strainer?
It is good practice on any close clearance pump, and essential if the system has been newly built or recently opened.
Q: What limits the life of the mechanical seal?
Dry running above all, then thermal shock and solids working between the faces. A seal that has run dry rarely recovers.
Q: Can the seal be changed without pulling the pump from the pipework?
On the back pull out models yes, the rotating assembly comes out with the motor and the casing stays bolted in place.
Q: Does stainless construction suit every chemical?
No. Stainless handles solvents, fuels and many process fluids well, but chlorides and strong acids attack it where a lined or thermoplastic pump would not.
