Finish Thompson PFV-40 PF PVDF Drum Pump 40 Inch
Finish Thompson supplies the PFV-40 as a PF drum and container pump with a 40 inch tube in PVDF. It is supplied as the pump tube and is driven by a matched Finish Thompson motor. PVDF wetted parts take the pump into oxidizers, bleach, strong acids and higher temperatures that polypropylene cannot handle, at the cost of a more expensive tube.
The point of a pump like this is that nobody has to lift a drum. These are sealless tube pumps, so there is no shaft seal to weep down the outside of the drum, and the bearings are lubricated by the fluid itself rather than by grease. That makes flushing after use the single most useful habit, because a pump left full of product is a pump that seizes.

Q: Does the pump tube length need to match the container?
Yes. The tube should reach close to the bottom of the drum or tote without bottoming out, which is what the length in the model number refers to.
Q: Can the pump be left standing in the drum between uses?
Only if the wetted materials suit the fluid for long contact. Otherwise it should be flushed and drained, since standing exposure is harder on a pump than pumping is.
Q: What happens if the pump is run dry?
The bearings are lubricated by the fluid being pumped, so dry running wears them quickly and can seize the shaft.
Q: Does the pump need a bung adapter?
It does if the container is to hold the pump upright, and the adapter also limits fumes escaping around the tube.
