Finish Thompson M6 M6 Drum Pump Air Motor
The M6 is a Finish Thompson M Series drum and container pump, built in the motor enclosure. It is the drive unit that mounts on top of a Finish Thompson drum pump tube. The M6 is the compressed air motor in the drum pump range, chosen where an electric motor would need explosion protection or where only air is available at the point of use.
It exists so that product comes out of the container under control rather than over the lip of it. Motor and tube are a matched system, so the coupling, the mounting and the power rating all have to correspond, and a motor chosen on power alone will not necessarily fit the tube you have.
Key Features
- Air driven, so it suits classified and flammable areas
- Stalls without damage when the discharge is closed
- Speed varies directly with air supply for dispensing control
- No electrical supply or explosion protection required at the pump
- Serviceable vanes and wear parts via the air motor repair kit
Applications
- Flammable solvent and fuel transfer in classified areas
- Paint, ink and coating handling
- Sites where electric motors are not permitted
- Dispensing work needing fine speed control
- Areas with compressed air but limited electrical supply

Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Can this motor be used on any Finish Thompson pump tube?
No. Motor and tube are matched as a system, so the coupling, mounting thread and power rating all have to correspond.
Q: What maintenance does the motor need?
Keep the air inlet or cooling path clear, check the coupling insert for wear, and renew bearings once the motor becomes noisy.
Q: Why choose an air motor over an electric one?
Air motors suit classified areas and duty where an electric motor would need explosion protection, and they tolerate stalling without damage.
Q: Does variable speed help?
It does on dispensing work, because reducing speed lowers fluid velocity, which both improves control and reduces static build up.
