Finish Thompson M100010 PTFE Center Bearing
Finish Thompson supplies the M100010 as the ptfe center bearing for PFM, PFP and PFV drum pumps. It steadies the shaft partway down the tube so that a long shaft cannot whip as it turns. It is built in PTFE, which is what decides where it can safely be used.
Most pumps see this part replaced well before the pump itself needs attention. Q: Should it be replaced in sets?
If the pump has several bearing points it is worth doing them together, because one fresh bearing carrying a worn neighbor rarely lasts.
Q: Does it need a break in period?
No. It reaches its working clearance almost immediately once the pump is primed and running.
Q: Should the mating shaft be inspected at the same time?
Always. A scored or undersized shaft will wear a new bearing quickly and turn a cheap repair into an expensive one.
Q: Can this be lubricated to extend its life?
It is designed to run in the pumped fluid rather than on grease, so added lubricant does not help and may contaminate the product.
