Finish Thompson KC6VTVN305C KC5.5 Magnetic Drive Pump end
Finish Thompson builds the KC6VTVN305C as a KC5.5 sealless magnetic drive pump end in carbon fiber reinforced PVDF. It is supplied as the pump end, ready to mount on a motor of the matching frame. There is no mechanical shaft seal anywhere in the design: the motor turns an outer magnet, and the field couples through a solid containment barrier to the magnet inside the impeller, so the only way out for the pumped fluid is the discharge port.
Removing the seal removes the usual failure mode. On a conventional pump the seal is what weeps, what needs flushing and what puts the pump back on the bench, and none of that applies here. The wetted parts are carbon fiber reinforced PVDF with a PTFE bushing and a ceramic shaft, and the elastomers are Viton FKM. The unit is built for a NEMA 56C motor frame. Maximum working pressure for this size is 60 psi, with the housing material setting the temperature ceiling at 220 degrees F.
Key Features
- Sealless magnetic drive with no shaft seal and no leak path
- Carbon fiber reinforced PVDF wetted construction
- PTFE bushing on a ceramic shaft
- Neodymium magnets for full torque in a compact coupling
- Back pull out design so the wet end is serviced without disturbing the piping
Applications
- Acid, caustic and solvent transfer where a leak cannot be tolerated
- Plating, etching, anodizing and metal finishing lines
- Water treatment, scrubber and filtration recirculation
- Laboratory, photo processing and chemical blending systems
- Replacing a sealed pump that keeps failing at the shaft seal

Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Is a suction strainer worth fitting?
On a magnetic drive pump, yes. The running clearances are small and a single piece of debris can take out the bushing.
Q: How is the pump taken apart for service?
The wet end separates from the motor adapter without disturbing the piping, so bushings and O-rings can be renewed in place.
Q: What causes most premature wet end wear?
Dry running, abrasive solids, and operating well to the left of the curve where recirculation heats the fluid inside the pump.
Q: Does a higher specific gravity fluid need a different pump?
It needs more torque, which is why the heavier duty builds use a stronger magnet coupling rather than a bigger motor alone.
