Finish Thompson KC4VCVN2301 KC4 Magnetic Drive Close coupled pump
Finish Thompson builds the KC4VCVN2301 as a KC4 sealless magnetic drive close coupled pump in carbon fiber reinforced PVDF. It is supplied close coupled to its motor and ready to pipe in. There is no mechanical shaft seal anywhere in the design: the motor turns an outer magnet, and the field couples through a solid containment barrier to the magnet inside the impeller, so the only way out for the pumped fluid is the discharge port.
Removing the seal removes the usual failure mode. On a conventional pump the seal is what weeps, what needs flushing and what puts the pump back on the bench, and none of that applies here. The wetted parts are carbon fiber reinforced PVDF with a carbon bushing and a ceramic shaft, and the elastomers are Viton FKM. Maximum working pressure for this size is 60 psi, with the housing material setting the temperature ceiling at 220 degrees F.
Key Features
- Sealless magnetic drive with no shaft seal and no leak path
- Carbon fiber reinforced PVDF wetted construction
- Carbon bushing on a ceramic shaft
- Neodymium magnets for full torque in a compact coupling
- Back pull out design so the wet end is serviced without disturbing the piping
Applications
- Acid, caustic and solvent transfer where a leak cannot be tolerated
- Plating, etching, anodizing and metal finishing lines
- Water treatment, scrubber and filtration recirculation
- Laboratory, photo processing and chemical blending systems
- Replacing a sealed pump that keeps failing at the shaft seal

Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What sets the impeller size on these pumps?
The duty point the pump was ordered for. Each body accepts several trims, and the trim fitted is what puts the pump on its curve.
Q: Can the bushing material be changed later?
Yes, and it often is. Carbon suits most duties and tolerates brief dry running, while PTFE and ceramic are chosen where the chemistry attacks carbon.
Q: What happens during a magnet decoupling?
The two magnet sets slip out of step, the pump stops delivering and heat builds quickly, which is why a decoupled pump should be stopped rather than left running.
Q: Does the elastomer choice limit the pump?
It often limits it more than the housing does, since a Viton ring fails on caustics and hot water where an EPDM ring would last.
