Finish Thompson KC11PCEN4514 KC11 Magnetic Drive Close coupled pump
The KC11PCEN4514 is a Finish Thompson KC11 sealless magnetic drive close coupled pump built in glass fiber reinforced polypropylene. It is supplied close coupled to its motor and ready to pipe in. There is no mechanical shaft seal anywhere in the design: the motor turns an outer magnet, and the field couples through a solid containment barrier to the magnet inside the impeller, so the only way out for the pumped fluid is the discharge port.
The absence of a seal is the whole point. It takes away the component that leaks, the flush water that goes with it and the seal spares that sit on the shelf waiting for the next failure. The wetted parts are glass fiber reinforced polypropylene with a carbon bushing and a ceramic shaft, and the elastomers are EPDM. The unit is built for a NEMA 145TC motor frame. Maximum working pressure for this size is 35 psi, with the housing material setting the temperature ceiling at 180 degrees F.

Q: Can the bushing material be changed later?
Yes, and it often is. Carbon suits most duties and tolerates brief dry running, while PTFE and ceramic are chosen where the chemistry attacks carbon.
Q: What happens during a magnet decoupling?
The two magnet sets slip out of step, the pump stops delivering and heat builds quickly, which is why a decoupled pump should be stopped rather than left running.
Q: Does the elastomer choice limit the pump?
It often limits it more than the housing does, since a Viton ring fails on caustics and hot water where an EPDM ring would last.
Q: Is a suction strainer worth fitting?
On a magnetic drive pump, yes. The running clearances are small and a single piece of debris can take out the bushing.
