Finish Thompson DB6V-T DB6 Magnetic Drive Pump end
The DB6V-T is a Finish Thompson DB6 sealless magnetic drive pump end built in carbon fiber reinforced PVDF. It is supplied as the pump end, ready to mount on a motor of the matching frame. There is no mechanical shaft seal anywhere in the design: the motor turns an outer magnet, and the field couples through a solid containment barrier to the magnet inside the impeller, so the only way out for the pumped fluid is the discharge port.
The absence of a seal is the whole point. It takes away the component that leaks, the flush water that goes with it and the seal spares that sit on the shelf waiting for the next failure. The wetted parts are carbon fiber reinforced PVDF with a PTFE bushing and a ceramic shaft, and the elastomers are Viton FKM. The unit is set up for a NEMA 56C motor frame. Maximum working pressure for this size is 80 psi, with the housing material setting the temperature ceiling at 220 degrees F.

It is a back pull out design, so the wet end comes apart without disturbing the piping or unbolting the motor.
Q: What decides the maximum temperature?
The housing material and the fluid together, with polypropylene rated to 180 degrees F and PVDF to 220 degrees F, lowered by whatever is being pumped.
Q: Why choose PVDF over polypropylene?
PVDF handles oxidizers, bleach, strong acids and higher temperatures that polypropylene cannot, at a higher cost.
Q: Is a strainer recommended on the suction?
It is worth fitting wherever solids are possible, since the clearances inside a magnetic drive wet end are small.
