Finish Thompson DB22-P DB22 Magnetic Drive Pump end
This is the Finish Thompson DB22 pump end, supplied in glass fiber reinforced polypropylene. It is supplied as the pump end, ready to mount on a motor of the matching frame. There is no mechanical shaft seal anywhere in the design: the motor turns an outer magnet, and the field couples through a solid containment barrier to the magnet inside the impeller, so the only way out for the pumped fluid is the discharge port.
That construction is why these pumps end up on the duties nobody wants to nurse. A seal is the part that fails on a conventional chemical pump, and removing it removes the leak, the flush plan and the seal inventory along with it. The wetted parts are glass fiber reinforced polypropylene with a carbon bushing and a ceramic shaft, and the elastomers are Viton FKM. Maximum working pressure for this size is 90 psi, with the housing material setting the temperature ceiling at 180 degrees F. The DB22 is the largest pump in the DB range and is supplied here as the pump end only.
Key Features
- Sealless magnetic drive with no shaft seal and no leak path
- Glass fiber reinforced polypropylene wetted construction
- Carbon bushing on a ceramic shaft
- Neodymium magnets for full torque in a compact coupling
- Back pull out design so the wet end is serviced without disturbing the piping
Applications
- Acid, caustic and solvent transfer where a leak cannot be tolerated
- Plating, etching, anodizing and metal finishing lines
- Water treatment, scrubber and filtration recirculation
- Laboratory, photo processing and chemical blending systems
- Replacing a sealed pump that keeps failing at the shaft seal

Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Does a sealless pump still need a bushing check?
Yes. The bushing and the ceramic shaft are the only wearing parts in the wet end, and they set how long the pump runs before it needs attention.
Q: Can this pump be run dry?
Only briefly, and only with a carbon bushing fitted. Sustained dry running overheats the bushing and can damage the barrier.
Q: What happens if the discharge valve is closed while it runs?
The magnets decouple rather than the motor stalling, which protects the drive but generates heat that can weaken the magnet set.
Q: Does the pump self prime?
The DB models are designed for flooded suction, so the supply should be at or above the pump rather than below it.
