Flojet 20132-000 Mounting Grommet Kit, 4 Pieces
The Flojet 20132-000 is a genuine kit of four mounting grommets for Flojet pumps. The grommets are the rubber bushes the pump sits on, isolating it from whatever it is bolted to.
They are the single most effective noise control measure on a water system, and the cheapest. A diaphragm pump is inherently a reciprocating machine — the cam drives the pistons back and forth many times a second, and that motion is not perfectly balanced. Bolt the pump rigidly to a bulkhead or a locker floor and that panel becomes a loudspeaker, amplifying a pump that would otherwise be barely audible into something that can be heard throughout the vessel. The grommets break the mechanical path, absorbing the vibration before it reaches the structure.
They are also a wear item that almost nobody thinks about. Rubber hardens with age, heat and oil contamination, and a grommet that has gone hard transmits vibration almost as well as no grommet at all — which is why an older pump often sounds far worse than it did when new, without anything actually being wrong with it. Do not over-tighten the mounting screws: a grommet crushed solid cannot isolate anything.

Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Why has my pump got louder over the years?
Very often the grommets rather than the pump. Hardened rubber transmits vibration into the structure almost as efficiently as a rigid mounting would.
Q: How tight should the mounting screws be?
Just enough to hold the pump securely with the grommets still visibly compliant. Crushing them solid defeats the entire purpose.
Q: Does mounting surface matter as well?
A great deal. A thin, large panel resonates far more than a thick or well-supported one, so where the pump is mounted can matter as much as what it is mounted on.
Q: Will grommets help with a pump that vibrates the plumbing?
Partly. Combine them with a short flexible hose section at the inlet and outlet, and most of the vibration path into the vessel is broken.
