Copper brushes go with low-voltage motors because those motors draw high current. A 12 volt motor needs roughly ten times the current of a mains-voltage one for the same power, and every amp of it passes through the brushes. Copper-impregnated brushes have much lower electrical resistance than plain carbon, so they carry that current with less voltage loss and less heat — which matters directly on a battery system, where anything wasted in the brushes is energy not moving water.
The ball bearing is the other half of the upgrade. Unlike a plain sleeve bush, a ball bearing carries side load without wearing oval, runs with less friction, and holds the armature in position more precisely over a long life. That precision matters in a motor driving an eccentric cam, where the load reverses on every revolution. Sleeve and ball bearing end bells are not interchangeable, so confirm which your motor uses before ordering.

Q: Is a ball bearing end bell an upgrade over a sleeve one?
Only if your motor was built for it. The housing, shaft fit and end float are all designed around one type, so fitting the wrong one causes problems rather than solving them.
Q: Why do ball bearings suit a cam-driven pump?
Because the eccentric cam reverses its load on every revolution. A ball bearing takes that alternating side load without wearing oval the way a plain bush eventually does.
Q: Does a ball bearing make the motor noisier?
