Flojet 20028-079 Valve Chamber Kit, Viton Non-Fabric
The Flojet 20028-079 is the genuine valve chamber kit with plain Viton valves, carried under the factory designation "Kit V/Chmbr Vit N/F 1BPvt". Viton is the fluoroelastomer option in the Flojet range.
Elastomer choice is the single most consequential decision in a valve rebuild, and it is decided entirely by what the pump moves. Nitrile is excellent on water and mild detergents. EPDM handles hot water, caustics and dilute acids. Viton occupies the remaining and rather large territory: fuels, mineral oils, solvents, many acids, and sustained temperatures that would harden nitrile. In those duties the valves are usually the first thing to fail, and fitting the wrong compound means doing the job again within months.
The non-fabric construction is plain elastomer rather than fabric-reinforced, which gives a softer, more compliant valve that seats readily without much pressure behind it — well suited to demand and lower-pressure systems. Fit the kit complete so the valves arrive correctly oriented, inspect the seats for scoring while the chamber is apart, and clean or fit a suction strainer if the old valves show cuts or embedded debris.

Q: If I am unsure of the liquid, is Viton the safe default?
Not automatically. Viton is poor with hot water, steam and strong caustics, where EPDM is the right answer. There is no universally safe default — the liquid decides.
Q: Does Viton cost more to fit?
The part costs more than a nitrile equivalent, and in the right duty it repays that several times over by not needing replacing every few months.
Q: Can I identify Viton by colour?
Not reliably. Compounds are moulded in a range of colours and several manufacturers use the same shades for different materials. The part number is the only dependable guide.
Q: What happens to a nitrile valve in solvent service?
It swells and softens, often within days. The valve loses its shape, stops seating and can jam in the chamber, taking the pump’s output with it.
