Flojet 20028-077 Valve Chamber, EPDM Fabric-Reinforced
The Flojet 20028-077 is the genuine valve chamber with fabric-reinforced EPDM valves, carried under the factory designation "Valve Chambr Fab 1BP Epdm".
Fabric reinforcement addresses a specific failure mode. A plain elastomer flap under repeated pressure cycling gradually stretches across its face and works at the hinge until it tears — the elastomer is doing all the structural work as well as all the sealing. Bonding a woven layer into the material separates those jobs: the fabric carries the tension and holds the shape, while the elastomer surface does the sealing. The result is a valve that survives higher pressures and longer duty cycles without distorting.
The EPDM compound brings the chemistry: hot water and steam, alkalis and caustics, dilute acids, plus strong resistance to ozone and weathering. It is not for petroleum products, which swell it rapidly. Fit the chamber complete so the valves arrive correctly seated and oriented, check the seats while it is apart, and clean or fit a suction strainer if the old valves show cuts or embedded debris.
Key Features
- Genuine Flojet (Xylem) service part — complete valve chamber
- Fabric-reinforced EPDM — the fabric carries the load while the elastomer seals
- Resists the stretching and hinge tearing that end plain valves in hard duty
- EPDM chemistry: hot water, steam, alkalis, caustics and dilute acids
- Factory designation: Valve Chambr Fab 1BP Epdm
Applications
- Flojet pumps running at higher pressure or long duty cycles
- Hot water, caustic and dilute acid service
- Rebuilding a pump where plain valves have stretched or torn at the hinge
- Applications needing longer valve life than plain elastomer provides
- Marine, dockside and industrial water systems

Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Where does a plain valve usually fail first?
At the hinge. That is the point flexing on every single stroke, and once a tear starts there the valve flaps rather than seals.
Q: Does reinforcement change how the valve seals?
Slightly. A reinforced valve is stiffer, so it needs a little more pressure behind it to seat, which is why it suits higher-pressure duty rather than every pump.
Q: Can I tell a reinforced valve by looking?
Often you can see the weave faintly through the elastomer surface, or find it at a cut edge. It is not a reliable way to identify a part number, though.
Q: Should both valves be replaced together?
Always. An old valve alongside a new one wears differently and seals differently, and the pump is only ever as good as the poorer of the two.
