The Flojet 20028-012 is the genuine valve chamber sub-assembly with Buna valves, carried under the factory designation "Valve Chamber S/A Buna 1BP". It renews the pump’s inlet and outlet check valves and the seats they work against.
Buna-N (nitrile) is the general-purpose elastomer of the pump world, and its strengths are the ones that matter most in ordinary water service. It is resilient, it recovers its shape well after being compressed, and it is more resistant to abrasion than most alternatives — which is genuinely useful in a check valve, where the flap is repeatedly slapping against a seat and occasionally catching a particle of grit as it does so. For fresh water, washdown, detergents and dilute solutions it is a very good choice.
Where it is not the right answer is heat, ozone and aggressive chemistry. Sustained hot water hardens it, strong oxidisers attack it, and solvents swell it — duties for which Flojet offers EPDM, Viton and Teflon alternatives. Match the elastomer to what the pump actually handles, check the part number against your parts breakdown, and fit or clean the suction strainer if the old valves show cuts or embedded debris.
