Flojet 20028-007 EPDM Valve Kit for 2100 Series
The Flojet 20028-007 is the genuine EPDM valve kit for Flojet 2100 Series pumps. It renews the check valves that give a diaphragm pump its direction — without them the diaphragm would simply push water back and forth rather than moving it anywhere.
EPDM is the specialist elastomer in the Flojet range and it is chosen for things the others do badly. It handles hot water and steam, alkalis and caustics, many dilute acids, ketones and phosphate-ester fluids, and it resists ozone and weathering better than most. That makes it the material of choice for cleaning chemicals, hot water circuits and a range of process liquids. Its one well-known weakness is petroleum — EPDM swells badly in mineral oil, diesel and petrol, so the elastomer has to be matched to the liquid rather than chosen by default.
Fit the kit complete rather than replacing individual flaps, and pay attention to valve orientation if the kit is supplied as loose components: a check valve fitted the wrong way round gives a pump that runs beautifully and delivers nothing. Clean the seats before assembly, and if the old valves show cuts or embedded grit, fit or clean the suction strainer as well — otherwise the new valves will go the same way.

Q: How can I tell if my pump is running EPDM already?
The parts breakdown for your model lists the elastomer options. Colour is not a reliable guide, as different compounds are moulded in similar shades.
Q: What happens if EPDM meets petroleum?
It swells, softens and loses its shape, usually within days rather than months. A valve that has swollen will not seat and may jam the chamber entirely.
Q: Can I mix elastomers within one pump?
Better not. Different compounds take a set at different rates and have different thicknesses when compressed, so a mixed set rarely seals evenly.
Q: Does hot water shorten valve life?
With the wrong elastomer, dramatically. With EPDM, hot water is one of the duties it handles best, which is exactly why this option exists.
