Flojet 20016-000 Bearing Cover, Poly/Glass
The Flojet 20016-000 is the genuine bearing cover moulded in glass-filled polymer. It closes off the bearing and cam area of the pump, keeping the drive mechanism enclosed and separated from everything outside it.
Glass-filled polymer is chosen here for a specific combination of properties. Adding glass fibre to the base polymer raises its stiffness and dimensional stability considerably, which matters because a bearing cover is a locating component as well as a lid — if it flexes or creeps, the bearing it retains is no longer held where it should be. At the same time the material stays corrosion-proof and electrically insulating in a way no metal cover would be, which is worth a great deal in a damp marine or washdown environment.
Replace the cover if it is cracked, distorted, or has had its mounting bosses damaged by over-tightened screws. A cracked cover lets moisture and grit reach the cam and bearing, and the resulting wear is not something a new cover will undo later. Check the condition of the cam and bearing assembly while the cover is off, and fit the screws to a firm hand tightness rather than driving them hard into plastic bosses.

Q: Why does glass filling matter in a cover?
It roughly doubles the stiffness of the base polymer and greatly reduces creep, so the cover holds its shape and keeps the bearing located rather than gradually relaxing under load.
Q: What damage should I look for before reusing one?
Hairline cracks radiating from the screw bosses, any visible distortion when it is laid on a flat surface, and stripped or crumbling boss threads.
Q: How tight should the cover screws be?
Firm and no more. Plastic bosses strip or split with very little warning, and a cracked boss means the cover no longer clamps evenly however tight the screw feels.
Q: Is it worth replacing the cover as a precaution during a rebuild?
If it is sound, no. If it has been off several times or shows any distortion, it is inexpensive insurance against moisture reaching the drive mechanism.
