Flojet 02090-104 Standard Pressure Switch, 35 PSI

There is a reason that figure has become the default. At 35 PSI a tap delivers a strong, natural-feeling flow and a shower works properly, while the pressure is still gentle enough that hose clamps, push-fit joints, tank fittings and older plumbing are nowhere near their limits. Push a system to 60 or 80 PSI and everything downstream is working harder for a gain most people would not notice at the tap; drop it to 20 and the shower becomes a trickle. Fit a new switch when the pump cycles rapidly with no tap open, when it will not shut off after the taps are closed, when it fails to start until pressure has fallen unusually far, or when the contacts are visibly pitted or corroded. Before condemning a switch, check for a small leak somewhere in the system — a dripping tap or a weeping joint bleeds pressure down and makes a perfectly healthy switch restart the pump every few minutes.

Frequently Asked Questions
Q: My pump restarts every few minutes with no tap open. Is the switch faulty?
Check for leaks first. A dripping tap, a weeping joint or a failed check valve all bleed pressure down and make the switch do exactly what it is supposed to do.
Q: Would a higher pressure switch improve my shower?
Usually less than expected. Flow at a shower head is limited by the head itself and by the pipe runs feeding it, so raising system pressure often changes little except the load on the plumbing.
Q: How can I tell the contacts are worn?
A buzzing or chattering sound as the pump starts or stops, visible pitting if the cover comes off, and in the later stages a pump that sometimes will not start until the switch is tapped.
Q: Does an accumulator change what switch I need?
No, but it makes whichever switch you fit behave better. An accumulator cushions the pressure changes so the switch operates less often and lasts longer.
