Flojet 02009-008A Motor, 12 Volt Low RPM
The Flojet 02009-008A is the genuine 12 volt low-RPM replacement motor for Flojet pumps. It is the drive unit that turns the cam and, through it, works the diaphragm — the component that converts electrical power into the mechanical stroke that moves water.
The low-RPM specification is the part that matters when choosing it. Motor speed sets how many strokes per minute the pump makes, and that in turn determines flow rate, noise, and how hard every wearing component in the pump is worked. A lower-speed motor produces a quieter pump with a longer service life from its diaphragm and check valves, at the cost of some flow. Fitting a motor of the wrong speed to a pump changes its whole character — a faster one can outrun the check valves and drive the diaphragm harder than it was designed for.
A motor is usually replaced when brushes have worn out and taken the commutator with them, when the armature has been cooked by running against a blocked discharge, or when water has found its way past the seal into the windings. If you are replacing one because of water ingress, fit a new pump seal at the same time, or the new motor will follow the old one. Check the voltage and speed on the pump’s label against the parts list before ordering.

Q: Why would a pump be specified with a slower motor?
To trade flow for quietness and durability. In a sleeping cabin or a small vessel, a pump that runs slightly longer but far more quietly is often the better engineering choice.
Q: Can I fit a higher-speed motor to get more flow?
It is a poor idea. The check valves, diaphragm and cam are matched to a stroke rate, and driving them faster increases wear, noise and the chance of the valves not keeping up.
Q: What usually kills a 12 volt pump motor?
Brush wear, and running against a closed discharge for long periods. Low supply voltage is another common cause, because the motor draws more current to do the same work and runs hot.
Q: Should anything else be replaced at the same time?
Check the pump seal, especially if water reached the motor. Fitting a new motor behind a failed seal simply repeats the fault.
