Flojet 01815004C Adapter, 3/8" Slip Stem x 1/2" Male NPT
The Flojet 01815004C is a genuine adapter joining a 3/8" slip stem to a 1/2" male NPT thread. It takes a quick-connect tubing system out to any standard threaded port — a pump, a tank fitting, a filter housing, a valve or a manifold.
The male thread is the more forgiving half of an NPT pair to have on a plastic fitting, because the male is the part being squeezed inward rather than the part being wedged apart. A female plastic fitting takes the splitting load when a joint is over-tightened; a male one is far more likely to survive an enthusiastic installer. That does not make it immune, and NPT still seals on the thread flanks rather than on a face, so sealant and a firm hand are the recipe rather than brute torque.
On the stem side there is nothing to judge: the stem pushes into its matching fitting and seals on an O-ring. Fit the threaded end first, while you can still turn the adapter freely, and connect the tubing afterwards — trying to tighten a thread with a tube already attached means twisting the tubing, which is how a joint that was fine on the bench starts weeping a week later.

Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Should I fit the threaded end or the tubing end first?
The threaded end, always. Tightening a thread with the tube already connected twists the tubing, and that stored twist works against the joint for as long as it is installed.
Q: How much sealant does an NPT joint need?
Enough to fill the thread flanks and no more. Two or three wraps of tape, or a thin even film of paste, applied from the second thread back so nothing can shed into the water.
Q: Can I use this adapter on a hot water line?
Check the temperature rating of the tubing system as a whole rather than this fitting alone. Push-fit systems generally have a lower sustained temperature limit than metal plumbing.
Q: What if the port I am fitting into is BSP rather than NPT?
Use the correct adapter. NPT and BSP have different thread angles and will appear to start together before binding, and a joint made that way seals on sealant alone until it does not.
