Flojet 01815000C Adapter, 3/8" Slip Stem x 1/2" Hose Barb
The Flojet 01815000C is a genuine adapter joining a 3/8" slip stem to a 1/2" hose barb. It is the piece that lets a quick-connect tubing system meet conventional barbed hose, which is what almost every real installation eventually needs.
Very few water systems are built entirely from one kind of plumbing. On the slip stem side, the stem pushes into the matching quick-connect fitting and seals on an O-ring. Q: What exactly is a slip stem?
A plain cylindrical spigot sized to push into a matching quick-connect fitting, where an internal O-ring makes the seal and a collet or clip retains it. It is the tubing-system equivalent of a barb.
Q: Is it a problem that the tube and hose sizes differ?
No. The sizes are quoted differently — tubing by one convention and hose by its internal diameter — and this adapter is made to bridge exactly that pairing.
Q: Why does the hose need warming before fitting?
Because forcing a cold, stiff hose onto a barb either fails to seat it fully or tears the inner wall. Hot water for a minute makes it slide on properly, and it grips just as hard once it cools.
Q: Can I use a clamp on the stem side as well?
No, and it would do harm. The stem seals on an O-ring inside the fitting, and squeezing the outside of that fitting distorts the bore the O-ring has to seal against.
