Flojet 01740-010 Strainer, 3/4" Barb x Quad Port, 90°
The Flojet 01740-010 is the genuine inlet strainer combining a 3/4" hose barb with a 90-degree Quad-Port snap-in connection. It mounts straight onto the pump’s inlet and turns the suction hose through a right angle at the same time as straining it.
The right-angle form solves a real installation problem. Pumps are usually mounted in confined spaces — under a bunk, inside a locker, against a bulkhead — and a straight inlet fitting demands a long clear run in front of the pump for the hose to leave without kinking. A kinked suction hose is one of the most common causes of poor pump performance, and it is easy to create without noticing when you are forcing a stiff hose into a tight space. The 90-degree fitting lets the hose turn immediately and run along the bulkhead instead.
The Quad-Port end snaps into the pump housing, sealed by an O-ring and held by a clip, so it comes off by hand for cleaning without tools or thread sealant. Clean the screen whenever flow falls off, and replace the unit if the mesh is torn or the body cracked. Check that the clip is in place every time you refit it — the O-ring seals, but the clip is what holds the port in.

Frequently Asked Questions
Q: How do I tell if my suction hose is kinked?
Look for a flattened oval section or a tight radius near the pump, and feel for the hose going stiff at that point. A kink you can see is usually already restricting far more flow than it looks like it should.
Q: Does the 90-degree bend itself cost flow?
Far less than the kink it prevents. A moulded elbow has a smooth radius and a consistent bore; a hose forced round the same corner collapses on the inside of the bend.
Q: Can the fitting be rotated after it snaps in?
The Quad-Port design lets you orient the fitting before the clip goes in, so you can point the elbow wherever the hose needs to go. Set the direction first, then fit the clip.
Q: What if the O-ring is damaged when I remove it?
Replace it rather than refitting a nicked or flattened one. On the suction side an imperfect O-ring will not drip — it will pull air in, and the pump simply will not prime.
