Flojet 01740-000S Inline Strainer, 3/4" Barb x 3/4" Barb
The Flojet 01740-000S is the genuine inline strainer with 3/4" hose barbs on both ends and a stainless steel screen. It drops into a 3/4" suction hose run ahead of the pump, catching the debris that would otherwise find its way onto a check valve seat.
Three-quarter inch is the size used where flow matters — the larger water pumps, washdown systems and transfer duties that would be throttled by a smaller inlet. That extra bore does two good things for the strainer itself. It gives a bigger screen area, so the unit holds far more debris before flow is affected, and it keeps the pressure drop low even when the screen has begun to load up. On a larger system, a properly sized strainer is close to invisible in operation until you take it out and see what it has collected.
The symmetrical barb-to-barb arrangement means it can be sited anywhere convenient in the suction run rather than only at the pump. Use a clamp at each barb. Clean the screen when flow falls off, and replace the unit if the mesh tears or the body cracks — on the suction side a split body means an air leak, and a diaphragm pump will not prime with air getting in.

Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Can I use this on a system plumbed in smaller hose?
You can, with reducers, and on a system that blocks often it is a sensible upgrade — the larger screen area buys you much longer between cleans. Keep the full bore through the strainer itself.
Q: Where is the best place to fit it?
Somewhere you can actually reach. A strainer mounted behind a bulkhead where it cannot be opened will not get cleaned, and an uncleaned strainer eventually causes the problem it was fitted to prevent.
Q: Should it be mounted horizontally or vertically?
Either works. Horizontal with the bowl downward is easiest to service, because debris settles where you can tip it out rather than washing back into the line as you open it.
Q: Will a bigger strainer improve suction lift?
Indirectly, yes. It does not add lift, but by keeping inlet restriction low it stops you losing the lift the pump already has — which is where most real-world priming trouble comes from.
