The Calpeda 14002630000 is the genuine casing O-ring for smaller Calpeda centrifugal pumps, measuring 95 mm inside diameter with a 1.78 mm cord and carried under O-ring reference 2375. It sits in the machined groove at the casing joint and is compressed as the pump is bolted together, sealing the wet end without any need for cut gaskets, jointing compound or sealant.
Small pumps are not gentler on their seals than large ones - if anything the opposite. The ring has to pass over the shaft, the spigot or the impeller boss during assembly, and on a compact pump there is very little clearance to do it in. That is where most of these rings are damaged: a sharp keyway corner, a burr on a spigot or a thread left exposed will take a sliver out of a 1.78 mm cord in an instant, and the cut is usually on the underside where nobody sees it until the pump is back in service and weeping.
Fitting one is quick if you slow down for thirty seconds. Check the shaft end and the spigot for burrs and dress any you find, cover exposed threads or keyways with a wrap of tape while the ring passes over them, and lubricate the rubber with a smear of silicone grease so it slides rather than drags. Then bed the ring fully into its groove before the faces come together, and bring the bolts up in stages around the joint. Fit a new ring on every strip-down as a matter of routine - the part costs almost nothing next to the time spent opening the pump a second time.

Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Can I stretch it slightly to make it fit a groove it seems small for?
No. Stretching reduces the cord thickness as well as increasing the diameter, so a ring forced onto an oversized groove ends up too thin to seal and creeps back over time. If it does not sit naturally, it is the wrong size.
Q: Is petroleum jelly acceptable as an assembly lubricant?
Better to avoid it. Petroleum products swell and soften nitrile rubber over time, which is exactly the opposite of what you want in a static seal. Silicone grease, or even clean water on a tight fit, does the job without attacking the ring.
Q: Why does my pump leak only under pressure and not at rest?
That pattern usually means the ring is not filling its groove properly, so at rest the small amount of contact holds but pressure finds the gap. A pinched, twisted or undersized ring behaves exactly like this, as does a groove with debris still in it.
Q: How long should a casing O-ring last in service?
There is no fixed interval, because heat, the liquid being pumped and how often the pump is opened all matter more than time on the calendar. In practice most people never wear one out - they replace it because the pump was opened for something else, which is the right moment to do it.
