Burks 9915 Bronze Wear Ring 2.741 in OD by 0.687 in for G6-1-1/2
The Burks 9915 is the genuine Burks bronze wear ring, 2.741 in outside diameter by 0.687 in, for G6-1-1/2 pumps. A wear ring is a deliberate sacrifice. It sits in the casing at the impeller eye and takes the wear from the close-running clearance there, so that a cheap ring is consumed instead of the casing itself.
Two things drive replacement: gradual erosion that opens the clearance, and a rub from a shaft that has run out of true, which leaves a witness mark on one side of the bore. The second is worth investigating before the new ring goes in, because the bearing or alignment problem behind it will simply eat the new part too.
Fit the ring squarely and check the running clearance against the Burks figure before closing the pump up. This one measures 2.741 in outside diameter by 0.687 in, for G6-1-1/2 pumps. A ring that goes in slightly cocked will rub, and a rubbing ring generates heat exactly where the pump can least afford it.

Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What happens if the clearance is too tight?
The ring rubs, heats and can pick up against the impeller. Burks specifies a clearance rather than a fit for exactly that reason, and it should be checked before the pump is closed up.
Q: Why bronze rather than iron?
Bronze runs against a harder mating part without galling, and it stands up to corrosion better than cast iron. It also wears in preference to the impeller, which is what you want from a sacrificial part.
Q: Can worn rings explain high power draw?
Usually the opposite. A worn ring lets liquid recirculate, so the pump moves less through the discharge while absorbing much the same power - the symptom is poor output at normal current rather than an overloaded motor.
Q: How do I measure the clearance?
With the impeller in place, measure the diametral gap between the impeller hub and the ring bore at several points. Compare it against the Burks service figure for the pump; once it has roughly doubled from new, the performance loss is usually worth acting on.
