Burks 9729-5.66 Bronze Impeller 5.66 in for 20WA6
This is the genuine Burks bronze impeller at 5.66 in diameter, supplied for 20WA6 pumps. Everything the pump does at the discharge port starts here. The vanes accelerate liquid outward under centrifugal force, and the volute collects it and converts that speed into head.
Impellers wear from the outside in. Grit and suspended solids scour the vane tips and the shroud faces, the running clearance to the casing opens up, and liquid begins slipping backwards across the vanes instead of being carried round to the discharge. The loss is gradual, which is why it usually goes unnoticed until a tank takes noticeably longer to fill or a pressure gauge stops reaching its old reading.
The diameter is part of the identity of this part. Burks machines the same casting down to several diameters so one pump family can cover a range of duty points and both supply frequencies, so two impellers can drop into the same casing and still give quite different head and flow. Check the diameter against your parts list before ordering, and confirm that your pump is one of the 20WA6 models.

Frequently Asked Questions
Q: The pump is noisy and vibrates. Could this be the cause?
It can be, especially if a vane has broken or worn unevenly. Before condemning it, rule out a partly blocked suction line, a starved inlet causing cavitation, and worn motor bearings, because all three sound similar from outside the pump.
Q: Does the material matter if I have the right size?
Yes. Bronze is what Burks specified here, and the material sets the corrosion resistance, the stiffness of the vanes and the thermal expansion of the part. Substituting a different material in the same diameter can change both pump life and liquid compatibility.
Q: How do I confirm the diameter on the impeller I have now?
Measure across the outside of the vanes at the widest point with the impeller off the shaft. Burks quotes a nominal size, so a reading a few hundredths under is normal on a part that has seen service and does not by itself mean you have the wrong number.
Q: Can I fit a larger diameter to get more pressure?
Only within what the pump and motor were designed for. A bigger impeller draws more power and can overload the motor, raise the axial thrust on the bearings and push the casing past its rating. Stay with the diameter the pump was built around unless Burks lists the larger one for your exact model.
Not sure this is the right part? Send us a Picture of the pump plate on your pump and the CLR Marine team will confirm the correct impeller before you order.
