Burks 9695 Viton Suction Sleeve 2-3/16 by 7/16 in for WA6 series
The Burks 9695 is the genuine Burks viton suction sleeve, 2-3/16 by 7/16 in, for WA6 series pumps. It forms the sealing and wearing surface at the suction, where liquid is drawn into the impeller eye.
Check the bore and the face for scoring and for an uneven wear pattern. Anything more than light polishing means the clearance has opened and the part has done its job.
Size and material both matter. This one is 2-3/16 by 7/16 in in viton, listed for WA6 series pumps. Burks chose the material for its wear and corrosion behaviour against the parts it runs with, so a dimensionally similar sleeve in a different alloy is not an equivalent.

Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Can the old one be polished and reused?
Light polishing to remove discolouration is fine. Anything that has left a groove or a step is past saving, because the sealing element needs a smooth, round surface to grip and a polished groove is still a groove.
Q: How do I get a tight one off?
Work with heat and a puller rather than with force alone, and support the assembly so nothing is bent in the process. Burks service literature gives the method for the specific pump; improvising here is how shafts get damaged.
Q: Does this need to be replaced every time the pump is opened?
Not automatically. Inspect it, and renew it whenever you are fitting a new mechanical seal to a pump with meaningful hours on it. The part is inexpensive and the cost of getting it wrong is a second strip-down.
Q: What if the shaft underneath is already grooved?
That is a different and more serious repair. The shaft either needs building up and re-machining or, on a close coupled pump where the shaft belongs to the motor, the motor needs attention. A new sleeve will not bridge a damaged shaft.
