Burks 22767 Cast Iron Pump Casing for GA6-1-1/4

Casings are replaced for three reasons. Erosion wears the volute and the wear ring seat until the clearance around the impeller opens and performance drops off. Corrosion thins the casting from the inside, which is invisible until a weep appears. And freezing or a dropped pump cracks it outright, which at least announces itself.
Take the chance to inspect everything the casing locates while it is off - the wear ring seat, the gasket face and the stud holes. This casting is the GA6-1-1/4 part. A new casing on a worn impeller or a tired gasket face will not give back the performance you are after.

Q: Can the pump be run with the old studs and nuts?
Only if they are sound. Stretched studs, damaged threads and corroded nuts all give uneven clamping, which is the usual reason a new gasket weeps on a joint that was otherwise fine.
Q: Can a cracked casing be welded instead?
Cast iron can be welded, but it needs preheat, the right rod and controlled cooling, and the result is a repaired pressure boundary with residual stress in it. On a pump this size the economics rarely favour it over a new casting.
Q: What should I fit at the same time?
The casing gasket or O-ring is compulsory, since the joint has to be opened. The wear ring, the impeller and the shaft seal are all worth assessing while everything is apart, because reaching them again means repeating the whole strip-down.
Q: How do I identify which casing my pump takes?
The nameplate model designation is the reliable answer. Failing that, the port sizes, the bolt pattern and the casting number on the old part together will narrow it down.
