Burks 21363-5.50 Noryl Impeller 5.50 in for GA5N and GA6N series
This is the genuine Burks noryl impeller at 5.50 in diameter, supplied for GA5N and GA6N series pumps. Everything the pump does at the discharge port starts here. The vanes accelerate liquid outward under centrifugal force, and the volute collects it and converts that speed into head.
Impellers wear from the outside in. Grit and suspended solids scour the vane tips and the shroud faces, the running clearance to the casing opens up, and liquid begins slipping backwards across the vanes instead of being carried round to the discharge. The loss is gradual, which is why it usually goes unnoticed until a tank takes noticeably longer to fill or a pressure gauge stops reaching its old reading.
Because Burks trims this casting to several diameters to suit different duty points, the size in the part number is not optional detail - it is what separates this impeller from its siblings. Measure the old one across the outside of the vanes if there is any doubt, and check that the pump is a GA5N and GA6N series model.

Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Is a worn impeller worth repairing rather than replacing?
On very large pumps with long lead times, weld build-up and re-machining is sometimes done. At this size it rarely pays. Vane profile and balance both have to be restored properly, and the labour costs more than a new part.
Q: The pump is noisy and vibrates. Could this be the cause?
It can be, especially if a vane has broken or worn unevenly. Before condemning it, rule out a partly blocked suction line, a starved inlet causing cavitation, and worn motor bearings, because all three sound similar from outside the pump.
Q: Does the material matter if I have the right size?
Yes. Noryl is what Burks specified here, and the material sets the corrosion resistance, the stiffness of the vanes and the thermal expansion of the part. Substituting a different material in the same diameter can change both pump life and liquid compatibility.
Q: How do I confirm the diameter on the impeller I have now?
Measure across the outside of the vanes at the widest point with the impeller off the shaft. Burks quotes a nominal size, so a reading a few hundredths under is normal on a part that has seen service and does not by itself mean you have the wrong number.
Not sure this is the right part? Send us a Picture of the pump plate on your pump and the CLR Marine team will confirm the correct impeller before you order.
