Burks 21000 Ball Bearing 6303
This is the size 6303 ball bearing Burks lists as part 21000. It is a deep groove bearing, the type used throughout pump and motor construction because it takes radial load with a useful amount of axial load at the same time.
Bearings announce themselves before they fail. A rumble or a growl that rises with speed, heat at the housing, or roughness felt when the shaft is turned by hand all point the same way. What is worth asking is why - most bearings that fail early were killed by contamination past a failed seal, by a hydraulic imbalance from a damaged impeller, or by misalignment, and the replacement will go the same way unless that is dealt with.
Size 6303 is a standard metric designation, which makes the dimensions easy to confirm against the old part. What is not interchangeable is the internal clearance, the seal or shield arrangement and the cage material, so check those against what you are removing rather than assuming any bearing of the same number will do.

Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Can I use a bearing with a different suffix?
Not without checking. Suffixes cover internal clearance, shields, seals and cage type, and those differences matter in pump service where heat and load are not what a general purpose application would see.
Q: How should it be pressed on?
Apply force only to the ring being fitted tight and never through the balls. Induction heating or a controlled oil bath is the clean way to expand the inner ring for a shaft fit; a hammer and a drift is how bearings get brinelled.
Q: Does it need repacking with grease?
Sealed and shielded bearings come charged from the factory and should be left alone. Open bearings in a grease-lubricated housing are filled according to the Burks instructions - overfilling causes churning and heat, which is as damaging as running short.
Q: Should both bearings be changed together?
On a pump with two, yes. They have done the same hours in the same conditions, and the labour to reach the second one has already been spent.
