Burks 09632-D Aluminum Bronze Wear Ring 1.6 in Bore by 0.56 in
The Burks 09632-D is the genuine Burks aluminum bronze wear ring, 1.6 in bore by 0.56 in. A wear ring is a deliberate sacrifice. It sits in the casing at the impeller eye and takes the wear from the close-running clearance there, so that a cheap ring is consumed instead of the casing itself.
Two things drive replacement: gradual erosion that opens the clearance, and a rub from a shaft that has run out of true, which leaves a witness mark on one side of the bore. The second is worth investigating before the new ring goes in, because the bearing or alignment problem behind it will simply eat the new part too.
Clearance is the whole point of this part, so the dimensions matter - this ring is 1.6 in bore by 0.56 in. Check the impeller hub as well while the pump is apart; if it is worn too, replacing only the ring gives back a fraction of the lost duty.

Frequently Asked Questions
Q: How is the old ring removed?
Usually by machining or splitting it carefully so the casing bore is not damaged, then pressing the new one in square. The casing register is what holds the clearance concentric, so protecting it matters more than speed.
Q: What happens if the clearance is too tight?
The ring rubs, heats and can pick up against the impeller. Burks specifies a clearance rather than a fit for exactly that reason, and it should be checked before the pump is closed up.
Q: Why bronze rather than iron?
Bronze runs against a harder mating part without galling, and it stands up to corrosion better than cast iron. It also wears in preference to the impeller, which is what you want from a sacrificial part.
Q: Can worn rings explain high power draw?
Usually the opposite. A worn ring lets liquid recirculate, so the pump moves less through the discharge while absorbing much the same power - the symptom is poor output at normal current rather than an overloaded motor.
