AMT 4896-010-09 Impeller
The AMT 4896-010-09 is the genuine replacement impeller for AMT 4896-95 and 4896-97 pumps. The impeller is the only part in a centrifugal pump that adds energy to the liquid — its vanes throw the liquid outward at speed and the volute converts that speed into discharge pressure. Everything else exists to hold it in place and get liquid to and from it.
That makes impeller condition the ceiling on what the pump can do. The decline is gradual and quiet, which is what makes it so easy to miss: vane tips thin and round off, the shroud wears and eventually perforates, erosion at the eye opens the running clearance, and cavitation leaves a pitted, spongy texture on the backs of the vanes. The pump keeps running and sounds entirely normal while delivering noticeably less head and flow for the same current draw. It usually gets blamed on a blocked strainer long before anyone opens the pump.
When you fit the new impeller, check the surface it runs against at the same time. A fresh impeller in a casing with an eroded cover or suction plate will not restore the clearance that produces head, so the pump only comes back part of the way. AMT builds several impellers of similar appearance with different vane profiles and diameters, and they are not interchangeable — confirm the part number against your parts breakdown before ordering.
