AMT 4294-010-00 Stainless Steel Impeller, 0.33 HP
The AMT 4294-010-00 is the genuine stainless steel impeller for AMT’s 0.33 HP build in the 1" self-priming centrifugal pump range. At a third of a horsepower this is a small pump, and small self-priming pumps are surprisingly sensitive to impeller condition — there is simply less margin in the machine to absorb lost efficiency.
Self-priming is the reason. To prime itself, the pump has to hold a reservoir of liquid in its casing and use the impeller to pull air out of the suction line, and that air-handling ability depends directly on how well the impeller is sealed against its wear surfaces. Open up the running clearance through vane erosion or a worn shroud and the pump will still move water once it is primed, but it will take longer and longer to prime, then struggle on lift, and eventually stop priming altogether — which is usually the point at which someone notices.
Stainless steel is specified for corrosion resistance in salt water, washdown chemistry and dilute process liquids, and for holding a vane edge longer than bronze in abrasive flow. Replace the impeller when the vanes are thinned or ragged, the shroud is worn through, or cavitation has left pitted damage on the vane backs — and check the suction plate or cover it runs against at the same time.
