AMT 2185-000-00 #276 Buna-N O-Ring
The AMT 2185-000-00 is the genuine #276 Buna-N O-ring, listed in the parts documentation for the AMT 3993-99 four-inch trash pump. At #276 this is one of the larger rings in the range — the kind that seals a big casing or cover joint on a serious piece of dewatering equipment.
Large-diameter O-rings have a failure mode all of their own. A small ring is stiff enough to stay put while you assemble the joint; a large one is floppy, and it is very easy to let a section slip out of its groove and be pinched between the two faces as the cover is drawn down. The pinched section is cut through, and the joint leaks from the first minute of operation — on a 4" trash pump that is not a drip, it is a flood. Work the ring fully into its groove all the way round and check it visually before the cover goes on.
Buna-N (nitrile) is the correct compound for trash and dewatering duty: resilient, abrasion-resistant, and happy with water, mud, mild chemistries and the general filth these pumps live on.
