AMT 2105-012-00 Shaft Clamp
The AMT 2105-012-00 is the genuine shaft clamp for AMT’s 3890 series pumps. A shaft clamp grips the shaft by friction rather than by a key or a thread, squeezing down on it when its fastener is tightened so that the clamped component and the shaft turn as one and cannot move axially relative to each other.
That friction grip is what makes a clamp useful and also what makes it unforgiving. The clamping force depends entirely on the fastener being correctly tightened onto clean, dry, undamaged surfaces. Oil on the shaft, a burr on the clamp bore, or a fastener that has been over-torqued and stretched will all let the clamp slip — and a clamp that slips under load lets the part it holds wander out of position, which on a pump means clearances change and the seal or impeller pays for it.
Replace the clamp if it has been spread or distorted, if the bore is scored or galled from a previous slip, or if the clamping fastener is damaged. Do not try to restore grip by simply pulling the fastener tighter on a tired clamp — the usual result is a cracked clamp or a stripped thread.
