AMT 2105-004-00 #245 Teflon-Encapsulated Viton O-Ring
The AMT 2105-004-00 is the genuine #245 Teflon-encapsulated Viton O-ring, used as a casing seal in AMT’s 1-1/2" self-priming pumps. An encapsulated O-ring is a clever piece of engineering: a Viton core is completely sheathed in a seamless skin of PTFE, so the ring gets the springiness of rubber on the inside and the chemical immunity of Teflon on the outside.
Neither material alone would do the job. Solid PTFE has superb chemical resistance but almost no elasticity — it cold-flows under clamp load and will not spring back to keep a joint sealed as the assembly moves and breathes. Solid Viton has the elasticity but will eventually be attacked by the very aggressive chemistries this pump family is built for. Encapsulate one in the other and you get a seal that keeps pushing back against its groove for years while presenting only inert PTFE to the liquid.
Handle it carefully. The PTFE jacket is what does the sealing, and a nick, a cut from a screwdriver or a scrape over a sharp casing edge exposes the Viton core and defeats the whole design. Fit it clean, without grease unless your manual calls for it, and never stretch it further than necessary getting it into its groove.
