AMT 1696-047-90 Teflon Seal
The AMT 1696-047-90 is the genuine replacement Teflon seal for AMT pumps. Teflon (PTFE) is the material engineers reach for when the liquid will destroy everything else: it is chemically inert to strong acids, strong caustics, solvents, oxidisers and chlorinated compounds alike, and it stays serviceable across a far wider temperature band than any common rubber compound.
The other half of PTFE’s value is friction. It has one of the lowest coefficients of friction of any solid, which means a sealing element made from it can run against a rotating or reciprocating surface without galling, grabbing or generating the heat that kills an elastomer seal. That is why PTFE turns up in the hardest-duty positions in a pump — the ones where a nitrile or even a Viton part would swell, harden or char.
The trade-off is that PTFE is not elastic the way rubber is. It cold-flows under sustained clamping load, taking a permanent set that it will not recover from, so a PTFE seal that has been in service should be replaced rather than refitted. AMT uses several Teflon sealing components across its range and they are not interchangeable, so confirm this part number against the parts breakdown for your specific pump before ordering.
