AMT 1641-162-91 0.75" Teflon JC Type 9A Seal Subgroup
The AMT 1641-162-91 is the genuine 0.75" (3/4") JC Type 9A seal subgroup with Teflon (PTFE) components, supplied with the seat drive pin. It is listed for AMT’s 1-1/2" self-priming centrifugal pumps in the 3890 and 389A families. The drive pin matters — it is what stops the stationary seat rotating in its housing, and a seat that creeps will chew its own elastomer and leak.
Teflon is specified when nothing else will survive the liquid. PTFE is chemically inert to very nearly everything a pump will ever see: strong acids, strong caustics, solvents, oxidisers, chlorinated compounds. Where a Viton seal is a broad chemical upgrade over nitrile, a PTFE seal is the answer for the aggressive chemistries that attack even fluoroelastomers. The trade-off is that PTFE is not elastic in the way rubber is — it cold-flows under sustained load, so it is not a part to reuse once it has been clamped.
Fit the subgroup complete, including the drive pin, and make sure the pin engages its slot properly before the gland is drawn down. Handle the lapped faces by their edges, wipe them with a lint-free cloth, and check the shaft where the seal rides. Confirm the part number against your parts breakdown before ordering, since AMT offers several 3/4" seal variants that differ only in materials.
