AMT 1641-051-90 0.50" Buna JC Type 6A Seal Subgroup
The AMT 1641-051-90 is the genuine 0.50" (1/2") JC Type 6A seal subgroup with Buna elastomers, listed for the AMT 4851-97 and 4861-97 self-priming pumps and carried in CLR Marine’s catalog for the AMT Primo line and the 4850 series. It is supplied as a complete subgroup — rotating face, stationary seat, spring and elastomers together.
At 1/2" this is one of the smaller seals AMT fits, and small seals are less forgiving than large ones, not more. There is less face area to carry the load, less thermal mass to absorb a moment of dry running, and less spring travel to take up wear. That is why the failure pattern on these pumps is so consistent: a brief loss of prime or a closed suction valve, a few seconds of the faces running dry, and the seal is finished even though the pump ran fine before and after.
Fit the subgroup complete and never mix a new face onto an old seat. Wipe both lapped faces with a lint-free cloth, handle them by their edges, and make sure the shaft is clean and dry where the elastomer grips. If the pump has run dry, check the shaft for heat discoloration at the same time. Confirm the part number against your parts breakdown before ordering.
