AMT 1640-167-90 1-1/8" Viton Type 31 Silicon Carbide Seal Kit
The AMT 1640-167-90 is the genuine 1-1/8" Type 31 seal kit subgroup with Viton elastomers and silicon carbide faces. This is AMT’s premium specification in a large shaft size — the combination you fit when a pump is doing hard work and you want the seal to stop being the part that decides how often the machine comes apart.
Silicon carbide against silicon carbide is the most abrasion-resistant common face pairing available. It is harder than sand, harder than most of the mineral solids that find their way into a pump, and it carries heat away from the rubbing interface several times faster than ceramic does — which matters because a seal that cannot shed heat will craze and fail long before it wears out. The Viton elastomers then handle the chemical side, resisting solvents, acids, oils and temperatures that would swell or harden nitrile.
Type 31 is a cartridge-style arrangement, supplied as a complete subgroup so the faces, springs and elastomers stay matched. Fit it complete, handle the lapped faces by their edges only, and wipe them clean immediately before assembly. Check the shaft and sleeve where the seal runs — even a premium seal will not survive a grooved shaft. Confirm the part number against your parts breakdown before ordering.
