FCC extends comment period on GPS decision

BoatUS recently cautioned that America's boaters weren't out of the woods yet with the possibility of the country's sole electronic navigation system failing as the result of radio signal interference issues from a newly proposed cellular broadband network.

The association said the Federal Communications Commission extended the public comment period to the network's proposed builder, LightSquared, allowing comments through March 16.

CLR Marine and BoatUS continues to urge boaters and all users of GPS to submit comments to the FCC to ensure that the nation's system of global positioning devices keeps Americans safely on course.

“At every turn LightSquared has proven its resiliency to delay the inevitable,” BoatUS president Margaret Podlich said in a statement. “This latest move is no surprise and we hope the additional two weeks gives GPS users the chance to have their voice heard.”

Here is how to file comments to the FCC through its online comment form:

• Select “Proceeding Number 11-109.”

• Enter contact information.

• In the box that says “Type in or paste your brief comments,” here are some points to select from:

Prevent Engine Damage from Manifold Leakage

When replacing any part of the exhaust system, always make sure you have a clean, flat gasket mating surface. This is especially true where the riser meets the manifold. Pay close attention to water port area on the manifold and riser, if the surface is pitted from corrosion, you should consider replacement. Failure to do so may cause water to enter the engine through the exhaust valves and dilute the engine oil or cause hydraulic lock.

Always check the engine oil level after replacing any part of the exhaust system, before you start the engine. The boat should then be test run and the oil level checked again once the engine has cooled down. If the oil level has risen then you may have water leaking back into the exhaust portion of the manifold.

2012 Rates Information
Effective January 2, 2012, UPS rates will increase as follows*:

UPS Ground services will increase a net 4.9% through a combination of a 5.9% increase in rates and a 1 percentage point reduction in the UPS Ground fuel surcharge.
UPS Air and International services will increase a net 4.9% through a combination of a 6.9% increase in rates and a 2 percentage point reduction in the UPS Air and International services fuel surcharge. Rates for UPS Next Day Air^® remain up to 4% lower than our largest U.S. private competitor for similar services.
UPS Next Day Air^® Freight and UPS 2nd Day Air^® Freight rates for shipments within and between the U.S., Canada and Puerto Rico will increase 5.9%. UPS 3 Day Freight^® rates will remain unchanged.

If you want it we will ship it to the US address and then Bongo takes over. Our check out for International orders now gives you the the landing fee up front. It will take a few more days for Bongo to Classify our 55,537 products, but once there are done, all new items should only take a day or two to classify.
