SAE Compliant E-Series 6" Light Bar - Pair - Black
SAE Compliant Lights - RIGID Industries' SAE Compliant lights include the Dually Fog light Set and the 6” E-Series Auxiliary High Beam Driving Light Set. These SAE Compliant lights allow RIGID Industries LED Lights to be used on-the-road and not just off-road.
SAE Defined - SAE stands for Society of Automotive Engineers. SAE is comprised of a number of working groups of automotive and lighting engineers that work with industry studies and other experts to set standards. SAE sets the standards for pretty much everything on a vehicle, from how bright or dim a brake light can be, to lens coatings (in some cases) to thermal performance, to colour specification (is that red brake light really red, or more pink-ish?). While SAE is not law in most areas, it is a best-practices standard that the entire automotive world pays attention to. Comparing SAE numbers usually gives a good level-playing-field comparison between lights. SAE publishes thousands of standards, each one numbered. Within each standard, there are usually “Classes” that specify performance. When a vendor says “SAE Compliant” on their website or literature, they should also specify the Standard number and the Class. Without it the term “SAE compliant” is meaningless. RIGID Industries SAE Compliant Dually Fog Light Set follows the SAE J583 Class and the RIGID Industries SAE Compliant Auxiliary High Beam Driving Light Set follows the SAE J581Class.

Many boaters find exploring underwater an adventure into a whole new world. Whether you are on a night dive or set to explore murky waters, choose the best lighting for safety. For a night dive, consider the number of lumens and the angle of a dive light. In an article by www.scubadiving.com,any light with an average beam angle between 12 degrees to 75 degrees and a lumen output of 200 or greater should work fine for any recreational diving. The beam should be far wider than most torches can produce to prevent a bright spot from appearing. A 90-degree beam should be sufficient for most wide-angle video cameras.
For many safety reasons, having lights underwater on a boat is a must. The lights cast a glow with a lantern-type beam to make your location more visible. Many captains mount lights under the swim step to improve safety when stepping on or off a boat.
Nighttime fishing has become extremely popular. An easy and effective way to attract fish at night is with appropriate lighting. The fish are not attracted to the light itself — they are attracted to the zooplankton that gathers around it.
Color matters when it comes to underwater lighting. The most effective colors are Green light and White light to attract fish to boats, docks, and piers. These colors are brighter and will attract fish from a greater distance. Blue light is less bright and is typically used more for ambient lighting.
In a future article, we will cover deck lights. For safety regarding boating at night, an on-deck spotlight is an essential piece of equipment. Many skippers have been saved from an impending disaster because their searchlight beam lit up an unlit dock, break-wall, or buoy. The spotlight also helps you spot a person or object that has fallen into the water. It can aid in safety when needed to signal other boats.
When shopping for a spotlight, decide if you want one permanently installed or a handheld that can charge from a cigarette lighter receptacle. You can also purchase a battery-operated handheld light.

This Safety Alert serves to inform the maritime industry that energy saving Compact Fluorescent Lights (CFL) or lighting, sometimes known as radio frequency (RF) lighting devices may interfere with certain communications equipment. CFLs employ a RF lighting device to excite a gas inside a bulb in order to produce light.
The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) recognized the need for and adopted rules to control the harmful interference to radio communications services from these devices. During the rulemaking process the Coast Guard provided comments and recommended an advisory label for CFLs / RF lighting devices warning users about potential interference to communication services and particularly with respect to devices capable of producing emissions in the 0.45-30 MHz band. As a result, the FCC required manufacturers of CFLs to provide an advisory statement, either on the product packaging or with other user documentation, similar to the following: "This product may cause interference to radio communications and should not be installed near maritime safety communications equipment or other critical navigation or communication equipment operating between 0.45-30 MHz."
The Coast Guard has learned that CFLs have been installed on the navigation bridges of vessels and in other places capable of causing radio communications interference. Marine inspectors, vessel owners and operators ** should be aware of this potential safety hazard ** and take proper action as needed.
This safety alert is provided for informational purposes only and does not relieve any domestic or international safety, operational or material requirement. Developed by the Office of Domestic Vessel Activities (CG-5431), United States Coast Guard Headquarters, Washington, DC.

Safety First when it comes to Trailer Lighting
Safety is important, not only on the water, but on the road going to and coming from the water. If your trailer is more than a few years old, most likely you have had or are having some issues with the lights and the electrical system on your trailer. Fortunately, most issues are pretty easy to fix.
The first thing to do is to test the lights by hooking up to the vehicle harness and checking all lights to make sure they are bright and working. If any are dim or not functioning, connect a tester to the vehicle harness to see if there might be an issue with the electrical source. Cleaning the connectors of the harness on both the vehicle and trailer side is critical, and can easily be done with a can of electrical connector spray and a fine wire brush. Also, clean the ground contact and tighten the ground wire.
Make sure to check the ground screw and replace it if it is corroded. Most bulbs are easily replaceable by simply twisting them to remove and install them. You can also clean up corroded sockets by gently sanding away the corrosion with fine sandpaper. It's possible you may have to replace wiring, which can be purchased as part of a complete kit that includes new lights, connectors, and lenses.
We suggest if you do not have LED light on your trailer to switch over to them. Led lights are brighter, more efficient and has multiply bulbs so you will never have a taillight completely unlit if one bulb burns out.
CLR Marine carries trailer lights and lighting kits, which are complete with license plate holder, wiring and side lights. Along with any other trailer accessory you may need.
